From 15 to 18 March 2005, the Institute for Popular Democracy hosted a
workshop on "advocacy strategy and technique development" to
kick off its annual Southeast Asian internship programme. 21 NGO and grassroots
activists stay in the Philippines for two months to learn from local experiences
in people-centred advocacy in various fields, from women's rights to peace
efforts and from legislative lobbying to organizing constituents for participatory
local governance. The following countries have been represented: Burma,
Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
