Staff from Instituto PÓLIS, the coordinator of LogoLink
Latin America, were present at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre
in January 2003, sharing a booth with the Ford Foundation sponsored Government
Award Program/Fundação Gertulio Vargas.
The World Social Forum is an annual gathering of various
actors from the emerging Global Social Movement, bringing together civil
society representatives from across the world and directly challenging
the market-centric approach of the World Economic Forum (which happened
this year in Davos, Switzerland).
The purpose of their presence at the Forum was to present
the work of LogoLink, and in particular LogoLink Latin America Translation
and Dissemination Initiative, and to disseminate key resources. The
World Social Forum was an excellent opportunity for networking and learning,
providing a sense of some of the issues that are currently attracting
more attention.
Representatives of LogoLink Latin America also
had the chance to attend panels and workshops, and to present the LogoLink
experience and initiatives to representatives from organizations in Latin
America, India and Africa, and to scholars from the US.
