The Instituto de Estudos, Formação
e Assessoria em Políticas Sociais (PÓLIS), the LogoLink Partners
for Latin America, have held their third round table dialogue. This was
part of a series on "Participation in Innovation Experiences of Local
Government", taking place in São Paulo, Brazil, on 26 April,
21 May and, most recently, 3 September 2004.
This learning event has promoted a very interesting
dialogue between practitioners from innovative local governments, civil
society representatives, academics and researchers to discuss new forms
of participation, responsiveness, accountability and also alternatives
to deepen democracy.
The series was co-sponsored by the Fundaçao
Getulio Vargas, hosts of the Ford Foundation Innovations in Government
Program from which the nine experiences discussed at the round tables
were selected. The write-ups from these dialogues are currently being
completed.
