In July the Good Governance Learning Network (GGLN)
held its fourth learning event in Cape Town, on the theme of performance
management in local government.
The objectives of the event were
- to learn more about the municipal performance management
legislative and policy framework in South Africa
- to explore processes and mechanisms to promote more
meaningful public participation in monitoring municipal delivery and
governance
For the first time representatives of the national
government department responsible for local government attended the learning
event and were exposed directly to input from the GGLN. The learning event
was also enhanced by two international guest presenters: Joseph Capuno
from the Philippine Centre for Policy Studies who delivered a presentation
on the GOFORDEV Index, and John Gaventa from IDS/LogoLink, who gave a
presentation entitled "Strengthening Citizen Voice and Government
Responsiveness."
The GGLN event coincided with the LogoLink
Regional partners meeting, which gave international LogoLink
partners and GGLN members an opportunity to meet and for the international
partners to attend parts of the learning event.
The GGLN is currently anchored by the Foundation for
Contemporary Research in Capetown. For more information, please visit
