This second PRIA International
Conference on Citizenship and Governance has been organised to reflect
on the role of the state, civil society and citizens in the new scenario
of governance as it is recognised that a large majority of people bearing
the vulnerable identities of poor, tribal, low caste and women have been
neglected by the state.
Some of the themes that will be touched on in this
conference are: institutionalizing change / changing institutions: role
of civil society in democratizing governance; mobilization for rights
and accountability; gender and participation in state led development;
critiquing the state / collaborating with the state: role of civil society
in promoting inclusion and voice of the marginalised; strengthening citizen
leadership: innovative ways to promote citizen engagement.
