From 9-11 June LogoLink took part in a three day learning
event organised by the Deliberative Democracy Consortium (DDC) on 'Citizen
Engagements in Local Governance'. The aim of this event was to share experiences
in promoting citizen engagements in local governance and to better understand
various meanings and practices of participation, deliberation and advocacy
as specific approaches. It was also an opportunity for the DDC and LogoLink
to discuss their work and to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
The event opened with a field trip to a local deliberation
project, followed by a World Café session where participants were
able to discuss their own personal motivations for their work. Day two
began with presentations on the conceptual background of participation
and deliberation, followed by discussions around influencing power and
learning from each other.
Those involved felt the event to be an exciting and
enriching experience and on the final day participants identified a number
of ways to take the collaboration forward.
