On 8-10 October 2002, a seminar on 'Democratic building
from below in Southern Cone countries' was organised by PÓLIS and Ceaal-Reppol,
and co-funded by CCFD (Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour
le Développement) and LogoLink. It gathered 21 organisations from
the region (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay), as well as
representatives from LogoLink Latin America, IDS, CCFD and Ceaal-Reppol.
During the three days of the workshop, the group shared
knowledge on the historical evolution of a democratic civil society in
each country. They also debated how citizens have engaged in various historical
periods, the impacts of citizen engagement, and how citizen participation
can be fruther deepened.
