Institute of Development Studies (IDS)

LogoLink was coordinated by a team based at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK, from 2001-2006. Since its beginning, IDS has played an active role within the network and continues to remain a partner as LogoLink enters a new phase with the coordination function now based in Brazil.

The Institute of Development Studies is a global organisation for research, teaching and communications on international development. Its purpose is to understand and explain the world, and to try to change it - to influence as well as to inform. IDS hosts five research teams, eight postgraduate courses, and a family of knowledge services. Through the Participation, Power and Social Change (PPSC) research team, IDS, will continue work collaboratively to further the aims of the LogoLink network.

The PPSC Team explores concepts and methods of 'participation' and how they can be used to improve the complex interactions between society and policy. Focusing on research, innovation and learning in rights-based and participatory approaches, PPSC research address six themes:

- Power and empowerment
- How change happens
- Identities, rights and social justice
- Conflict and violence
- Inclusive citizenship and governance
- Learning and social change

In addition, two Development Research Consortiums are based within the PPSC team:

- Citizenship, Participation and Accountability DRC researching themes related to Deepening Democracy, Local-Global Citizen Engagements and Citizenship, Participation and Violence;
- Pathways of Women's Empowerment DRC researching themes related to conceptions of power and change, building constituencies for justice and equality, empowering work and changing narratives of sexuality.
